April Dobbs
April Dobbs’ love for media started young, reading product labels and imagining herself in commercials as a child in Lithonia, Georgia. While attending Savannah State University, a work-study assignment glitch placed her at WHCJ 90.1 FM instead of the biology lab. That twist of fate launched her radio career, starting with a jazz show before transitioning to R&B and hip-hop. Her talent quickly led to a role at WEAS E93 FM in Savannah, where she was the local producer and on-air talent with the Doug Banks Morning Show and later became the station’s top-rated midday host and Music Director.
April took her talents to Washington, DC, working in television broadcasting and programming for Fox 5 News. She expanded her expertise into sales, production, and programming, later joining Fox Sports Networks to manage regional and network sports programming for nearly a decade. She worked at Fox Sports South in Atlanta and Fox Sports West in Los Angeles, managing programming for major live broadcasts, including NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL coverage.
April returned to radio as a weekend talent on Atlanta’s Kiss 104.1 FM and associate producer for the Tom Joyner Morning Show while securing voice-over contracts for nationally recognized brands. Earlier in her career, she also worked in the Shreveport market at 99.7 KMJJ.
April’s passion for music extends beyond the studio. She’s studied classical piano and recently started learning bass guitar. A lover of live music, she previously created a popular music podcast highlighting R&B and soul artists. An active mentor and supporter of the arts, April contributes to W.I.S.E. (Women in Sports & Events), the Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals, and the Junior League. Now, she brings her deep industry experience and smooth style to WJZA as the host of The Jazz Cafe with April Dobbs, delivering your daily dose of jazz and chill.
